2nd Quarter Progress Reports

Your student will be bringing home their 2nd quarter progress report on THURSDAY. Like the previous progress report, I have attached a letter to communicate the cause of your student's current grade. Like always if you have any questions, comments or concerns please contact me.

Also, I have noticed that over the last two weeks there has been an increased number of students not returning their homework tracker on a daily basis. Please remember that this is my first line of communication to parents for both academics and behavior.

Reading Logs

Please remember, students should be reading daily at home. Time that is spent reading, should be documented on student’s reading log and signed by a parent/guardian after each entry.

The next reading log will be due October 20th. A total of 8 hours should be read during this time.  The reading log does account for part of the student’s reading grade.

This is a great opportunity to boost up grade, plus encourage your student to read more than the minimum 8 hours!

Homework Change

The following changes were made to this evenings homework assignments.

No Math Homework: due to the shortened schedule, there will be no math homework today.
Social Studies Homework: Instead of the "Find Me" Worksheet, students were assigned to create a map of the home. The map should include the following things:
               1. Compass Ross
               2. A map illustrating the front yard, home and backyard.
               3. A map key

Additional Assignment/Classroom Behavior: in addition to the map of their home, I have assigned the students to write an apology letter. Today, the class had a guest teacher and as a whole were off-task, talking out of turn and not following direction while I was away from class. This disrespectful behavior is something that I can not accept or tolerate.

Over the last week, the class has been struggling with disrespectful behavior towards each other and myself. This includes talking out of turn, shouting out, not following directions and excessive talking in line. As a result, I have taken away the afternoon recess as a consequence for this behavior. Now I understand that not all students are participating in this behavior but those who are, largely out number the others.

Therefore, I would like students to work as a class to earn their recess back. If the behavior continues, those individuals who are doing what they are suppose to will be rewarded. Those who are not, will face further consequences.

If you have any questions or comments, like always please contact me via blog, email or phone.

Monthly Character Trait: Trustworthiness

Heritage Elementary incorporates the Character Counts! Program to quality traits in our young people.

This month’s focus is Trustworthiness. In our classroom we will be focusing on the following concepts:
· What is Trustworthiness?
· What do trustworthy people do?
· How can my choices make me trustworthy?

I encourage parent(s) and guardian(s)  to go over these concepts at home as well. Students will be able to relate and retain concepts with more ease, if they hear them at school and home.

This will also show students the importance of the character traits we will be learning throughout the year.
